Resumen : ABSTRACT: This action research was aimed to explore the effectiveness of a cooperative learning strategy, Teams-Games-Tournaments (TGT), when applied as an alternative in assessment to promote the English language achievement of second graders at Francisco Miranda Institution. Data were collected through a teacher's journal, games outcomes, a focus group, and a questionnaire to the cooperating teacher. The data analysis revealed that TGT can be successfully implemented as an alternative in assessment that positively affects learning outcomes and promotes students' cooperative work, attention, and participation. However, there are factors that must be considered for this strategy to be effective such as the language assessment process and some practicality issues.
