La mujer en la sociedad actual y su valor a decir no al papel impuesto de ser madre : cuestionando la mística de la maternidad

Abstract

RESUMEN: La presente investigación expone las razones por las cuales algunas mujeres de la ciudad de Medellín deciden no tener hijos. La resignificación de la maternidad, la lucha por la emancipación, la capacidad de agencia y la obtención de derechos han sido elementos fundamentales en la elección de no ser madres. A pesar de los múltiples cuestionamientos por su elección, las mujeres participantes de esta investigación defienden su posición y demuestran que la maternidad no es la única vía para que las mujeres se sientan realizadas. A la luz de la teoría feminista se analizan los datos arrojados en la investigación, y se evidencia que estas pequeñas luchas también han permitido cuestionar los roles definidos a hombres y mujeres en la sociedad.

ABSTRACT: This research presents the reasons why some women in the city of Medellín decide not to have children. The resignification of motherhood, the struggle for emancipation, the capacity of agency and the obtaining of rights have been fundamental elements in the choice of not being mothers. In spite of multiple questions about their choice, the women participating in this research defend their position and demonstrate that motherhood is not the only way for women to feel fulfilled. In the light of feminist theory, the research data are analyzed, and it is evident that these small struggles have also allowed to question the defined roles of men and women in society.
