Colección de referencia de fitolitos de plantas medicinales

Abstract

RESUMEN: la paleoetnobotánica estudia la interacción de las sociedades del pasado y el mundo vegetal. Para identificar, comparar y comprender las plantas que hicieron parte del acervo cultural y natural de los grupos humanos, es imperativo construir colecciones de referencia con indicadores macro y microbotánicos de plantas actuales. En esta monografía se procesaron quince plantas medicinales, locales e introducidas del Neotrópico, usadas principalmente para tratar la malaria. El propósito fue analizar fitolitos, uno de los microrrestos botánicos con mayor potencial en arqueología debido a su durabilidad, diversidad morfológica y versatilidad, pues es posible aplicarlo a diferentes evidencias arqueológicas. A partir de la descripción de las características de forma y superficie de los fitolitos se hallaron una gran diversidad de los mismos, confirmando su gran potencial y constituyéndose como una herramienta fundamental para identificar especímenes recuperados en contextos arqueológicos y paleoecológicos.

ABSTRACT: paleoethnobotany studies the interaction of past societies and the plant world. To identify, compare and understand the plants that were part of the cultural and natural heritage of these human groups, it´s imperative to construct reference collections with macro and microfossils indicators of current plants. In this monograph were processed fifteen medicinal plants, local and introduced Neotropics, used mainly to treat malaria. The purpose was to recover phytoliths, one of the botanical micro-resources with the greatest potential in archaeology, due to its durability, morphological diversity and versatility, since it is possible to apply it to different archaeological evidences. From the description of the shape and surface characteristics of the phytoliths, a great diversity of the phytoliths were found, confirming their great potential and constituting as a fundamental tool to identify recovered specimens in archaeological and paleoecological contexts.
