Resumen : ABSTRACT: This action research was aimed at increasing group work effectiveness of ninth graders at a public institution in Girardota through the implementation of cooperative learning strategies at a public institution in Girardota. The entire group was divided into ten groups of four students and they were trained in the development of tasks using roles. Data were collected through a journal, an interview to the teacher, and a focus group. Data analysis showed that cooperative learning strategies increase the effectiveness of group work at different levels. Based on these positive results, it would be interesting to analyze the students’ performance after implementing this same strategy throughout a whole school year to do the analysis of the performance of students
