T: Objective: To evaluate through antropometric indicators (December of 1998 and March of 1999), the nutritional status of pregnant women attending the pre-natal program at the State-funded Hospital Gilberto Mejia Mejia in the municipality of Rionegro. Methodology: A transversal descriptive study was done on 59 healthy pregnant women, 18 to 40 years of age, who were in different pregnancy stages. Weight, height, fat skin-folds, uterine height, and arm circumference measurements were used to define the anthropometric profile. Results: 54% of the expecting women were found to suffer from obesity or overweight and 21 were underweight. Very nneaningful and correlated proportional statistics were found between the IMC and the percentage of weight adjustment for the gestational age and between the CMI and the body fat skin-folds (P<0.05). Conclusion: A large number of pregnant women (75%) presented some alteration in their nutritional status, caused by lack or excess of weight, in which situation, the health of the expecting mother could be affected as well as the actual and future health of the child. Statistical Analysis: It was realized with the EPINFO 6.0 and the Statistic 4 programs. The average and the standard deviation were used to describe the variables of interest and correlation tests were applied to explore a possible association between quantitative variables.spa
