Estudio de la variación espacio-temporal del aprovechamiento de residuos reciclables en el Distrito Especial de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de Medellín. Semestre de Industria

Abstract

RESUMEN : El crecimiento poblacional y el aumento en la demanda de bienes y servicios han generado una creciente cantidad de residuos sólidos en Medellín. A pesar de que aproximadamente un tercio de estos residuos son reciclables, actualmente se recicla solo el 12,8% de los residuos generados en la ciudad reportados ante la Superintendencia de Servicios Públicos Domiciliarios. El Distrito reconoce la importancia del aprovechamiento de residuos reciclables y se compromete a fortalecer las organizaciones de recicladores de oficio y las rutas de recolección. Para lograrlo, el presente informe incluye la identificación de las empresas y estaciones de clasificación y aprovechamiento asesoradas por la Subsecretaría de Servicios Públicos, la recolección y análisis de información sobre el material aprovechado y la sistematización gráfica de las áreas que cubren las rutas selectivas. Finalmente, se presentan resultados y análisis de la comparación entre oferta y demanda de material reciclable para determinar la viabilidad del aprovechamiento en el Distrito, así como la identificación de las zonas sin cobertura de recolección a través de las rutas selectivas. El informe concluye resaltando la importancia de la educación ambiental, la articulación de actores y la optimización de procesos. Este trabajo busca mejorar la gestión de residuos sólidos en la ciudad y contribuir al desarrollo sostenible.

ABSTRACT : Population growth and increased demand for goods and services have generated an increasing amount of solid waste in Medellín. Although approximately one third of this waste is recyclable, only 12.8% of the waste generated in the city and reported to the Superintendency of Public Utilities (Superintendencia de Servicios Públicos) is currently recycled. The District recognizes the importance of using recyclable waste and is committed to strengthening waste pickers' organizations and collection routes. To achieve this, this report includes the identification of companies and sorting and recycling stations advised by the Undersecretariat of Public Services, the collection and analysis of information on the material collected, and the graphic systematization of the areas covered by the selective routes. Finally, results and analysis of the comparison between supply and demand of recyclable material are presented to determine the feasibility of recycling in the District, as well as the identification of areas without collection coverage through the selective routes. The report concludes by highlighting the importance of environmental education, the articulation of actors and the optimization of processes. This work seeks to improve solid waste management in the city and contribute to sustainable development.
