Hacia una etnografía de los Cafés, como lugar de encuentro, en el Centro Tradicional de Bogotá

Abstract

RESUMEN: el propósito de esta investigación fue identificar el valor simbólico que los Cafés tienen para la ciudad, ya que estos lugares no sólo reflejan su historia, sino también los significados compartidos relacionados con la cultura. El objetivo principal es aportar a la antropología, un estudio etnográfico de las formas simbólicas y sistema de representaciones que dan sentido a los Cafés, como lugar de encuentro, en el Centro Tradicional de Bogotá. Para ello se seleccionaron 7 Cafés: Pasaje, San Moritz, Ibáñez, La Chata, Oma Banco Popular, Juan Valdez Candelaria Centro Cultural y Colonial. Los cuales develan una evolución, en el sentido de cambio, desde los más antiguos hasta los más actuales, aquí denominados; “Tradicionales”, “Contemporáneos¨, ¨Barras o tiendas de Café¨ y ¨En transición¨. Esta investigación se situó dentro del enfoque estructural planteado por Claude Levi- Strauss, recogió elementos del enfoque interpretativo de Clifford Geertz y recurrió al análisis semiológico de Stuart Hall y Roland Barthes, para estudiar las formas simbólicas como signos susceptibles de ser interpretados.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this investigation was to recognize the symbolic value that the Cafés have for the city, since these places reflect not only their history but also the shared meanings related to the culture. The main objective is to provide an ethnographic study of the symbolic forms and the system of representations that give meaning to the Cafés, as a meeting place in the Traditional Downtown Bogotá. To that end, seven Cafés were chosen: Pasaje, San Moritz, Ibáñez, La Chata, Oma Banco Popular, Juan Valdez Candelaria Centro Cultural y Colonial. These reveal an evolution, in the sense of change, from the most ancient to the most recent here called: “Traditional”, “Contemporary”, ¨Bar or Coffee Shop¨ and ¨On transition¨. This research is placed inside the structural approach proposed by the anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss. It also collected some elements of the interpretative approach of Clifford Geertz and resorted to the analysis by Stuart Hall and Roland Barthes, to study the symbolic forms as signs liable to being interpreted.
