Voseo medellinense como expresión de identidad paisa

Abstract

RESUMEN: Se ha afirmado que con el paso del tiempo podría desaparecer de toda Colombia el voseo. Sin embargo, en la ciudad de Medellín, se ha observado una permanencia vital de este tratamiento. En este artículo, se trata de mostrar de qué manera las actitudes sociales ante el voseo medellinense estimulan y propician la permanencia de este fenómeno, al menos en el momento presente. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se aplicó un cuestionario a universitarios en Medellín, en el que aparecen una serie de preguntas relacionadas con el voseo medellinense y las actitudes sociales. En concreto, se preguntó por qué emplearían el voseo y qué opinan sobre los miembros y la forma de hablar de su grupo y sobre los miembros y el habla de los que no le pertenecen. Los informantes afirman que emplean el voseo porque forma parte de la identidad social del grupo medellinense y tienen un fuerte sentido de pertenencia a su grupo, mostrando opiniones positivas sobre éste y opiniones negativas sobre los que no son parte de él. Por esta razón, se puede sugerir que el voseo medellinense no va a tender a desaparecer. Por lo menos a corto plazo.

ABSTRACT: It is claimed that through the time, the Colombian voseo could disappear from the country. However, in the city of Medellin, there has been a vital permanence of this way of treatment. In this article we want to show the way in which social attitudes surrounding the voseo in Medellin favor the continuation of this phenomenon, at least at this time. To carry out this research a questionnaire was applied to university students in Medellin, asking the questions that appeared regarding the voseo in Medellin and the social attitudes. Specifically, we asked them why the voseo was employed, and what they think about the members of their own community and the foreign members of this community using that way of speech. Informants state to use the voseo because it is part of their social identity regarding Medellin’s group, as well as a way to show a strong sense of belonging to this group, showing positive points of view about this group and negative points of view on the persons not belonging to this group. For this reason, we can suppose that the voseo in Medellín will not disappear, at least in a short term.
