Sobre la obra de Ludwig Lewisohn El caso del Sr. Crump y su traducción al español

Abstract

RESUMEN: En el presente ensayo me propongo dar a conocer el complejo contexto de la obra The Case of Mr. Crump, y la influencia que el trabajo traductivo del autor, Ludwig Lewisohn, tuvo en su trabajo creativo. Me propongo también dar cuenta del proceso de traducción al español de la obra, desde el deseo de traducir, que implica la selección misma del texto, hasta la traducción finalizada. Las traducciones son siempre variables según los traductores, los autores, las características discursivas de las culturas fuente y meta, así como los contextos histórico-culturales de los textos fuente, de los textos meta, de los autores, de los traductores y de los editores; de ahí la importancia de conocer el proceso, aunque sea de manera general, que ha sido el interés de los enfoques crítico-descriptivos de la traducción.

ABSTRACT: In this paper we intend to present the complex context of the novel The Case of Mr. Crump by Ludwig Lewisohn and the influence that his work as a translator had over his creative work, as well as the process of translation into Spanish, from the translation desire implied even in the selection of the text until the final translation. Translations are always variable depending on translators and authors, depending also on discursive characteristics of source and target culture, on historical and cultural contexts of authors, translators and editors. It is therefore important to have an overview of the translation process, an aspect in which critical and descriptive translation studies have been interested.
