La problemática relación entre libertad y solidaridad en John Staurt Mill

Abstract

RESUMEN: El texto que sigue, trata de establecer la relación entre los principios de solidaridad y libertad en la filosofía de John Stuart Mill. Para ello se centrará en los comentarios de la profesora Esperanza Guisán, quien afirma que estos dos principios no son contradictorios y que en la filosofía de Mill están conectados de una manera no problemática. Ante esta interpretación se opone mi trabajo, pues expone de manera clara las inconsistencias que surgen a la hora de hablar de solidaridad y libertad en Mill. El principal rasgo que me permite hablar de inconsistencia es la defensa de la libertad liberal que por definición no está dispuesta a sacrificar su postulado de la propiedad privada. Este postulado hace que el reclamo de solidaridad que Mill propone no se ajuste a las tendencias del liberalismo político, pues allí donde se establece la propiedad privada como un ejercicio del derecho del individuo, a la vez, se niega la posibilidad de que las exigencias de corte social como la solidaridad y la igualdad se vean truncadas en su realización. A lo sumo la exigencia milliana puede ser entendida como caridad.

ABSTRACT: The text that follows seeks to establish the relationship between the principles of solidarity and freedom in the philosophy of John Stuart Mill. This will focus on the comments of Professor Esperanza Guisán, who says that these two principles are not contradictory and in Mill's philosophy they are connected in a manner not problematic. Given this interpretation is opposed my work because clearly exposes the inconsistencies that arise when talking about solidarity and freedom in Mill. The main feature that allows me to talk about inconsistency is the defense of liberal freedom which by definition is not willing to sacrifice her assumption of private property, this assumption makes the claim of solidarity that Mill proposes does not conform to the trends of political liberalism, as where private property is established as an exercise of the right of the individual, while the possibility of cutting social requirements such as solidarity and equality from being truncated at its realization is denied. At best the Mill ́s requirement can be understood as charity.
