Resumen : In the analysis in research, it appears that when teachers addressed geometrical optics in high school, usually tend to focus their explanations on mathematical aspects concerning the formulation of reflection and consistently articulate the conceptualization of the phenomenon. This is problematic in the teaching process because in addition to not allow construction of the phenomenology of the situations involved, also projects an image of science in which disarticulate two aspects are inseparable when it comes to formalizing a phenomenon. The ability to explain and mathematize the phenomenon is constructed by the subject and in that sense it reflects and is built into the process of organizing experiences and quantification of physics itself. In order to build conceptual alternative routes to teaching optics, an analysis of the historical-epistemological way Newton sets and introduces the concept of reflection, stated in his book Optics (1977). This analysis shows how Newton constitution establishes a relationship between physics and mathematics, considering formalizing their processes are determined simultaneously, by construction of phenomenology and mathematization. Finally, from the analysis of the proposed formalization of Newton raised some educational implications that allow some clarifications for teaching optics.
