Rafael Gutiérrez Girardot como diplomático

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este artículo trata un aspecto de la vida del crítico literario y filósofo Rafael Gutiérrez Girardot (1928-2005), que hasta el momento no había sido estudiado, a saber, su vida de diplomático en la Embajada de Colombia en Alemania (1956-1969). En él se pone de presente las vicisitudes de este cargo, comunes a la vida de estos cuerpos diplomáticos, caracterizados por la improvisación en el servicio y la fatuidad social. Contrasta con ello una nota destacada en su formación intelectual, el mundo diplomático abre una dimensión inédita y una experiencia desde la que se teje una extraordinaria imagen de su “ser latinoamericano”. Los aquí llamados “Informes Diplomáticos”, redactados como Agregado Cultural, son piezas de gran nivel intelectual y parte de su dilatada y fructífera obra crítica.

ABSTARCT: This article is about one aspect of the literary critic and philosopher Rafael Gutierrez Girardot’s life (1928-2005), that until now had not been studied, i.e. his life as a diplomatic at the Colombian Embassy in Germany (1956-1969). The article shows the difficulties of this charge that are common to these diplomatic corps’ lives; they are characterized by the improvisation in the service and social fatuousness. This, contrasts with an outstanding touch in his intellectual life, the diplomatic world opens an unknown aspect and an experience from which it is established an extraordinary image of his “Latin-American being”. The so called “Diplomatic Reports, “written as Cultural Attaché, are pieces of high intellectual level and part of his extensive and fruitful critical work.
