El lenguaje científico-positivista en Colombia: análisis de los conceptos “evolución” y “progreso” en la obra intelectual de Ignacio V. Espinosa, 1891-1895

Abstract

RESUMEN: El presente artículo tiene por objetivo estudiar los conceptos “evolución” y “progreso” en la producción intelectual del positivista colombiano Ignacio V Espinosa. Para esto, se analizan los libros Filosofía Experimental (1891) y Bases positivas del liberalismo (1895), desde la óptica metodológica y teórica de la Historia Intelectual e Historia Conceptual sugerida por Elías José Palti. En este sentido, esta investigación tiene las siguientes hipótesis: por un lado, la dificultad de definir de manera cerrada y exacta la existencia de la doctrina llamada “positivismo” en las últimas décadas del siglo XIX en Colombia y, por otro lado, se planea el argumento de que la comprensión de los conceptos “evolución” y “progreso” en la obra de Espinosa está anclada a su contexto histórico de enunciación —la Regeneración—, el cual llevó a dichos conceptos a expresarse mediante un lenguaje político anclado al liberalismo y fuertemente influenciado por el espíritu científico-positivista inglés de Herbert Spencer (1820-1903).

ABSTRACT: The objective of this article is to study the concepts “evolution” and “progress” in the intellectual production of the Colombian positivist Ignacio V Espinosa. For this, the books Filosofía Experimental (1891) and Bases positivas del liberalismo (1895) are analyzed from the methodological and theoretical perspective of Intellectual History and Conceptual History suggested by Elías José Palti. In this sense, this research has the following hypotheses: on the one hand, the difficulty of defining in a closed and exact way the existence of the doctrine called “positivism” in the last decades of the 19th century in Colombia and, on the other hand, the argument is planned that the understanding of the concepts "evolution" and "progress" in Espinosa's work is anchored to its historical context of enunciation —the Regeneration—, which led these concepts to be expressed through a political language anchored to liberalism and strongly influenced by the English scientific-positivist spirit of Herbert Spencer (1820-1903).
