Representaciones socioculturales sobre salud y estética de las mujeres con mamoplastia en la ciudad de Medellín entre el 2007 y 2017

Abstract

RESUMEN: las siliconas, así son llamadas coloquialmente en la ciudad de Medellín a los senos que han pasado por una cirugía de aumento por la mamoplastia. Adentrarnos en este fenómeno es el objetivo principal de este trabajo, en el cual se abordan las representaciones corporales de la belleza y la salud relacionadas con esta cirugía estética. La mamoplastia consiste en aumentar el tamaño de los senos a través de unos implantes de silicona que se instalan en el pecho de las mujeres. A lo largo del trabajo se devela la relación entre los discursos producidos por la sociedad en torno a la belleza y la salud femenina, y la apropiación y resignificación de estos por parte de las mujeres participantes.

Uno de los objetivos específicos es analizar los discursos mediáticos sobre la belleza y la salud femenina en Medellín, y demostrar cómo estos mecanismos logran que la cirugía estética se naturalice y se propague. En Medellín se ha generalizado esta intervención, ya que este mercado llega a todo tipo de público y el acceso es más fácil que anteriormente. La representaciones corporales de belleza y salud no solo están ligadas al ámbito subjetivo y personal, sino que se relacionan directamente con “mecanismos sociales, por relaciones de poder y de coerción, así como por modos de resistencia y de agencia” (Herrera, 2012, p.12). Por lo anterior, este trabajo pretende analizar tanto la experiencia de cada una de las participantes y los discursos socialmente establecidos relacionados con la mamoplastia.

ABSTRACT: The silicones, thus are called colloquially in the city of Medellín to the breasts that have undergone a surgery of increase, by the mamoplasty. Entering this phenomenon is the main objective of this work, which addresses the body representations of beauty and health related to this cosmetic surgery. The mamoplasty consists of increasing the size of the breasts through a silicone implants that are installed in the chest of women, in the following chapters I will expand this topic, also throughout the work, its revealed the relationship between the speeches produced by the society around the beauty and the feminine health, and the appropriation and resignification of these by the participating women.

One of the specific objectives is to analyze the media discourses on the beauty and the feminine health in Medellín, and to demonstrate how these mechanisms manage that the cosmetic surgery is naturalized and propagated. In Medellín this intervention has been generalized because this market reaches all types of public and access to it is easier than before. Body representations of beauty and health are not only linked to the subjective and personal sphere, but are directly related to "social mechanisms, power and coercion relations, as well as modes of resistance and agency" (Herrera, 2012, P.12). Therefore, this work aims to analyze both the experience of each of the participants and the socially established discourses related to mammoplasty.
