Humanismo y Medicina: ¿un desencuentro forzado?

Abstract

RESUMEN: Frecuentemente vemos mezclados los términos medicina y humanismo en diferentes versiones y significados: «humanizar la medicina», «las humanidades en medicina», «medicina más humana» o «medicina humanizada», entre muchos otros. Sin embargo, aunque tengan similitudes textuales, creo que la propuesta que subyace en la mayoría de esas aproximaciones es confusa, en el mejor de los casos, o claramente equivocada, en cuanto pretende enseñar las humanidades para la práctica de la medicina. En este ensayo quiero mostrar que hay una idea de humanismo que es naturalmente intrínseca e indisoluble con la práctica de la medicina, cuya praxis debe entenderse como una «pedagogía de la curación». Para esto, mostraré en una primera parte las definiciones de las categorías ontológicas que nos permiten ser y estar en el mundo, luego intentaré definir el humanismo a partir de lo que ha sido históricamente y de lo que no es, en sentido pragmático, para finalmente mostrar la confluencia de medicina y humanismo en una propuesta que debe reconocer la comunicación con y la interpretación de «el ser humano/paciente».

ABSTRACT: We frequently see the terms medicine and humanism mixed up in different versions and meanings: "humanizing medicine", "humanities in medicine", "more human medicine" or "humanized medicine", among many others. However, although they have textual similarities, I believe that the proposal underlying most of these approaches is confusing, at best, or clearly wrong, as it pretends to teach the humanities for the practice of medicine. In this essay I want to show that there is an idea of humanism that is naturally intrinsic and indissoluble with the practice of medicine, whose praxis must be understood as a "pedagogy of healing". For this, I will show in a first part the definitions of the ontological categories, then I will try to define humanism from what it has been historically and what it is not, in a pragmatic sense, to finally demonstrate the confluence of medicine and humanism in a proposal that must recognize communication as the interpretation of "the human being-patient".
