Poder instrumentario y prácticas de libertad. Una discusión a partir de Shoshana Zuboff y Michel Foucault

Abstract

RESUMEN: En su trabajo, La era del capitalismo de la vigilancia, Shoshana Zuboff expone cómo, dentro del marco de la Era Digital, la libertad individual es suprimida a partir de las dinámicas de un novedoso tipo de poder que se alimenta de la información y su procesamiento. El objetivo fundamental, dice Zuboff, es establecer un mercado de certezas absolutas, lo cual implica la estructuración de una sociedad determinada. Frente a esta propuesta distópica y desde el planteamiento teórico de Michel Foucault, nuestra lectura es que, pensar en la supresión de la libertad a manos de un cierto tipo de poder solo es posible debido a una concepción de libertad que se utiliza. Así, y sin negar los efectos subjetivantes del instrumentarismo, nuestra propuesta es que al interior de la relación individuo/Era Digital, la ética del cuidado de sí se alza como resistencia frente a la dominación de una cierta biopolítica tecnodigital.

ABSTRACT: In The Age of Surveillance Capitalism, Shoshana Zuboff analyzes how, in the context of the Digital Age, individual freedom is curtailed through the dynamics of a novel form of power that feeds on data extraction and computational processing. The fundamental objective, Zuboff argues, is to establish a market of absolute certainties, which necessitates the configuration of a determined social order. Faced with this dystopian scenario and drawing from Michel Foucault’s theoretical approach, our reading suggests that thinking about the suppression of freedom by a certain form of power is only possible due to the specific conception of freedom being employed. Thus, without negating the effects of subjectification produced by instrumentarianism, we propose that within the individual/Digital Age relationship, the ethics of care of the self emerges as a form of resistance against the domination exerted by technodigital biopolitics.
