T: Despite the undeniable benefit of mechanical ventilatory assistance, its use is potentially associated with multiple complications such as damage to the airway by prolonged intubation and ventilator-associated lung injury. Interruption of mechanical ventilation assistance is advisable as soon as possible to protect the airway, as long as the subject is able to maintain adequate ventilation. Weaning is considered difficult when the subject meets the criteria for getting off the ventilator support and has had one or more failed attempts at extubation, or when the disconnection process cannot be completed after starting the weaning process.spa
