ABSTRACT: Axel Honneth has attempted to explain, through the concept of recognition, the moral development of individuals and societies from a substantial intersubjectivity. Certain part of the theory of recognition has proposed a genetic preeminence of the recognition over the knowledge; conceptualization supported on ontogenetic preconditions that permit humans beings to develop a relationship of reciprocal recognition with their intersubjective pairs, the knowledge of the natural world due to the interaction with others and the consolidation of the self-identity result of the social exchange. Such anthropological characteristics have been called existential recognition. However, Honneth in his theory of the existential recognition, starts from man’s solitary premises which contradict his owns intersubjective postulates. Thus, the developmental psychology, through the concept of consciousness, can clarify the development of the recognition as a previous moment to the knowledge of the social world, the natural world and the formation of the identity, having as a foundation the social condition of man, as shown in the psychological theory of the consciousness and the contemporary research about the theory of mind.
