Relación entre la pertenencia al grupo y la expresión de la conducta imitativa en niños de 6 años dentro de un contexto normativo

Abstract

RESUMEN: La siguiente investigación busca comprender la influencia de la pertenencia al grupo del modelo dentro de un contexto normativo o instrumental en la fidelidad de la imitación, en una población de niños institucionalizados de 6 años (N=60). Los infantes pasaron por 3 condiciones experimentales en las cuales observaban a un modelo realizar una tarea en la cual llevaba a cabo 5 acciones irrelevantes además del objetivo de la tarea. En la primera condición experimental observaron a un modelo neutro realizar la tarea dentro de un contexto instrumental, mientras que en las condiciones 2 y 3 el contexto fue normativo, variando solo la pertenencia al grupo del modelo entre endo-grupo y exo-grupo. Se encontraron diferencias significativas solamente en 1 de las 5 acciones irrelevantes en relación a las condiciones experimentales, lo cual no permite afirmar que la fidelidad de la imitación se haya visto afectada por las variables de pertenencia al grupo y las pistas contextuales. Sin embargo, estos resultados no invalidan la hipótesis según la cual estas variables modulan la fidelidad de la imitación, ya que en el caso del presente estudio si bien hubo pertenencia al grupo no se puede determinar que exista una identificación social de los participantes hacia el grupo, factor necesario para que hayan sesgos grupales que podrían conducir a las personas a imitar con mayor fidelidad a los miembros de su grupo por encima de otras personas. Asimismo, el contexto normativo del entorno institucional tuvo una importante incidencia en los resultados aquí expuestos.

ABSTRACT: The following research aims to understand the effects of group membership within a normative or instrumental context on imitative fidelity with a population of institutionalized 6 years old children (N=60). Infants participated in three different experimental conditions in which they had to observe a model solving a task. The model performed five irrelevant actions and the causally relevant action in order to solve the task. In the first experimental condition children observed a neutral model performing the task within an instrumental context, in the second and third condition the context was emphasized in a normative frame. There were only significant differences in one of the five causally irrelevant actions in connection with the experimental conditions. These findings does not fit with the initial hypothesis, which describes a strong relation between imitative behavior and group membership. Nevertheless, this results are not evidence against the hypothesis that links the previously mentioned variable and the imitative fidelity. The reason is that in the present research there may no social identification between the group members, this factor is necessary for group bias to arise which could lead to more closely imitate their group members above other people. Additionally, normative context had a strong effect in the current study results.
