Movilidad intergeneracional ocupacional : probabilidad de ascender a la formalidad en Colombia

Abstract

RESUMEN: El estatus laboral de los padres influencia el futuro laboral de sus hijos y, el resultado de esta interacción podría limitar la movilidad intergeneracional y profundizar las brechas de desigualdad en el mediano y largo plazo. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar si los factores asociados al estatus laboral de los padres afectan las condiciones ocupacionales de sus hijos. Para tal fin, se estima un modelo logit multinomial de cuatro categorías, utilizando datos de la GEIH para 2010 y 2019. Además, se estudian aspectos relacionados con la edad, los años de escolaridad, el sexo, la composición y la ubicación del hogar. Los resultados muestran movilidad ocupacional relativa ascendente de los hijos hacia la formalidad para todos los estatus laborales del jefe de hogar, conjunto con una alta probabilidad de permanencia en el sector informal. Así mismo, se demuestra mayor movilidad ascendente para hombres, individuos con menores años de escolaridad y en hogares nucleares. Por último, se comparten los hallazgos geográficos donde se expone un patrón centro-periferia en la movilidad y diferencias marcadas entre las zonas urbanas y rurales.

ABSTRACT: The parents’ employment status influences the future employment status of their children and the result of this interaction could limit the intergenerational mobility and deepen inequality gaps in the medium and long term. The objective is to determine if the factors associated with the parents’ employment status affect the occupational conditions of their children. For this purpose, this paper estimates a four-category multinomial logit model using data from the GEIH for 2010 and 2019. The estimation allows us to analize aspects related to age, years of schooling, sex, composition and location of the home. The results show children's relative ascending occupational mobility towards formality from all the head of the household’s labor statuses, together with a high probability of remaining in the informal sector. Similarly, it is shown that nuclear households, individuals with fewer years of schooling and men present greater mobility. Finally, the geographical findings exhibit a center-periphery pattern in mobility and marked differences between urban and rural areas.
