ABSTRACT The following research addresses the challenges in urban equipment in the city of Medellín for the traffic of population aging. For this, the concepts that characterize said traffic are presented as important factors in the change of the population pyramid, and the context in which the demographic changes in Colombia have been determined by aspects such as the drop in fertility is exposed. Next, the neighborhood is described as a space for participation and appropriation, as well as the main everyday scenario of belonging to a community for the elderly. With this, the neighborhood is proposed as the minimum unit in the public space in which the elderly can feel part of a social group and interact with the community and their peers. Subsequently, the contexts of mobility and health services are evidenced as two important concepts in the everyday life of the elderly that should contribute to the well-being, autonomy and independence of this population group as an unavoidable condition for its development without difficulty. Finally, the configuration of the space in which elderly relate especially to their age group is presented, as well as the role that it plays in its integration into social networks and interpersonal contacts, from the consideration of the quantity and intensity of the encounter with their peers.
