ABSTRACT: Wellness is a social and historical phenomenon, it should be understood in a dialectic’s logic, composed by the structure and the everyday life, meaning, it is determined by the culture, the experiences and interaction with the outside world. The objective of this research work is to understand the meanings of wellness for the people who live on (VIS) and (VIP) in the city of Medellin. This was addressed by a study of an ethnographic cut, which was made by semistructured interviews, observation, social mapping, and focal groups. Analyzed under the lens of collective health. The study shows that people have vital needs, that have to be covered in reason to their health, nevertheless are themselves who generate an own meaning of what this is and should be, which at the end determinate healthy practices, or deterioration of the life, on a particular and singular level, that affect subjective wellness, objective and intersubjective on their homes. So that wellness not only targets the fact that the government has to guarantee the right to get a home, but to all the conditions, like social inclusion, healthy coexistence, suitable equipment, sustainable community fabric, among other things that guarantees life development. Minimum criteria that allows them to evolve and overcome the poverty, displacement, and all the other situations of violence and inequity that the people who live in these houses have to go through. Among the identified practices, we got adaptive strategies like ‘’Each one in their thing’’. And survival strategies based on doing whatever they have to do, and collective practices looking for wellness.
