Sobrepeso y obesidad en el entorno educativo: una mirada desde la educación para la salud, en el sistema de bienestar universitario de una universidad colombiana

Abstract

RESUMEN: Objetivo. Comprender el significado que tienen del sobrepeso y la obesidad, los estudiantes que participan en las estrategias de educación para la salud (EpS) implementadas desde el Sistema de Bienestar Universitario (SBU), de una Universidad de Medellín- Colombia, en el periodo 2019- 2020. Material y métodos. Se centró desde el paradigma histórico hermenéutico, enfoque cualitativo de estudio de caso. Participaron once estudiantes, se realizaron once entrevistas semiestructuradas y un grupo focal. La información fue analizada a través de codificación y categorización. Resultados. Los significados construidos por los estudiantes alrededor del sobrepeso y la obesidad, están relacionados con las experiencias tempranas a partir de las cuales han construido una imagen de sí mismos con la que han cargado a lo largo de vida y que usualmente se encuentra atravesada por situaciones de rechazo y burla social, por ello han emprendido distintos caminos para hacerle frente a estas situaciones, sin embargo en la mayoría de los casos no han obtenido los resultados esperados, ahora bien, quienes han participado de las actividades implementas por Bienestar Universitario, han tenido la posibilidad de incorporar información relevante con respecto a estas condiciones desde otras áreas, obteniendo una visión integral de estas, sin embargo, hace falta fortalecer estos servicios para poder comprender la complejidad del sobrepeso y la obesidad y resignificar sus experiencias desde la educación para la salud. Conclusiones. El abordaje del sobrepeso y la obesidad desde la EpS, requiere acciones contextualizadas, que den respuesta a las necesidades, intereses y posibilidades de esta población, propicie espacios de atención y acompañamiento individual y grupal que trasciendan el modelo biomédico e integren un abordaje biopsicosocial, lo que representa una oportunidad para repensar y fortalecer las actividades del SBU.

ABSTRACT: Objective: To understand the meaning they have of overweight and obesity, students who participate in the education for health strategies (EpS) implemented from the University Welfare System (SBU), of a University of Medellin- Colombia, in the period 2019- 2020. Material and methods. It was centered from the historical hermeneutic paradigm, qualitative approach case study. Eleven students participated, eleven semi-structured interviews and one focus group were conducted. The information was analyzed through coding and categorization. Results. The meanings constructed by students around overweight and obesity are associated with early experiences from which they have built an image of themselves with which they have carried throughout life and which is usually crossed by situations of rejection and social mockery, so they have taken different paths to deal with these situations, however in most cases they have not obtained the expected results, however, those who have participated in the activities implemented by SBU have had the possibility of incorporating relevant information regarding these conditions from other areas, obtaining a comprehensive view of these, however, it is necessary to strengthen these services to understand the complexity of overweight and obesity and re-signify their experiences from the EpS. Conclusions. The approach to overweight and obesity from the EpS requires contextualized actions that respond to the needs, interests and possibilities of this population, providing spaces for individual and group care and support that transcend the biomedical model and integrate a biopsychosocial approach, which represents an opportunity to rethink and strengthen the activities of the SBU.
