Entre dos fuegos. Justificación del alzamiento en armas contra el Estado en los Llanos Orientales (1949-1953)

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este artículo busca determinar cómo la población civil involucrada con las guerrillas justificó o legitimó su participación en la confrontación armada en los Llanos Orientales en Colombia entre 1949 y 1953. Se presenta un balance histórico de la configuración regional y de las dificultades presentadas en la estabilización social de la zona, especialmente en los siglos XIX y XX, concentrándose en la época de la violencia bipartidista. En la confrontación armada entre el Estado y las guerrillas, una disputa de carácter partidista, confluyen en un mismo proceso múltiples causas y distintas formas de confrontación. Los testimonios aquí recogidos son muestras representativas de testigos, quienes no invocaron motivos ideológicos para pertenecer a la insurgencia. Por el contrario, hicieron eco de la imposibilidad de asumir una posición diferente, porque de no hacerlo se corría el riesgo de muerte.

ABSTRACT: This article looks to determine how the civil population involved with the guerillas justified or legitimized its participation with the armed confrontation in the Eastern Plains in Colombia from 1949 to 1953. It presents a historical balance of the regional configuration and the difficulties present in the social establishment of the zone, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, concentrated in the age of bipartisan violence. In the armed confrontation between the State and the guerillas, a dispute of partisan character, multiple causes and distinct forms of confrontation converge in the same process. The testimonies collected here are a portion representative of the witnesses, who did not call for ideological motives that pertain to the insurgence. Rather, they are an echo of the impossibility of assuming a different position, because not testifying would run the risk of death.
