Configuraciones del cuerpo utópico en La ceiba de la memoria de Roberto Burgos Cantor

Abstract

RESUMEN: ¿Qué es el cuerpo? Y ¿qué puede el cuerpo? Teniendo en cuenta el concepto expuesto por Foucault del cuerpo utópico como experiencia del deseo y la ilusión humana, y el pensamiento de Merleau-Ponty con respecto a la experiencia de la percepción como tematización de elementos de la realidad y el accionar del ser, este trabajo busca encontrar las configuraciones de memoria, cuerpo y utopía en la novela La ceiba de la memoria de Roberto Burgos Cantor, con la idea de exponer la resignificación que hace el relato para la reconstrucción de la historia de la esclavitud en Cartagena. Con esto se devela la potencia utópica que existe en la tradición oral y escrita, las cuales se fundan en la experiencia corporal de quienes existieron —y fueron corporalidad y corporeidad—, asunto que permite entender el fenómeno atemporal de la literatura histórica como enriquecimiento del pasado para comprensión del presente.

ABSTRACT: What is the body? And what can the body achieve? Taking into account the concept exposed by Foucault of the utopian body as an experience of desire and human illusion and the thoughts of Merleau-Ponty regarding the experience of perception as it thematizes elements of reality and the actuating of the being, this work searches the configurations of memory, body and utopia in the novel La ceiba de la memoria by Roberto Burgos Cantor, with the idea of exposing the resignification that the story does for the reconstruction of the history of slavery in Cartagena. With this, the utopian power that exists in oral and written tradition is revealed, based on the bodily experience of those who already existed and —with their corporality and corporeality—, a matter that allows us to understand the phenomenon of timelessness in historical literature as an enrichment of the past for the comprehension of the present.
