De arriero en Sonsón a comerciante en la gran Manzana : Alejandro Ángel Londoño pionero de la industrialización antioqueña. Valoración del Fondo Familia Ángel Londoño (FAL)

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este trabajo presenta el resultado de la organización, descripción y una breve valoración del archivo familiar de la Familia Ángel Londoño que se encuentra en la Sala de Patrimonio Documental de la Biblioteca Luis Echavarría Villegas de la Universidad EAFIT. El ejercicio de valoración de la sección Ángel, López & Co., se hizo sobre una de las Casas Comerciales en las que participó esta familia. Inicialmente se describe la importancia de la organización de los archivos personales. Seguidamente la recolección de información del contexto regional, nacional e internacional en el que se desenvolvieron los miembros de la familia. Luego se procede a narrar la vida y obra de Alejandro Ángel Londoño e hijos, la labor destacada que realizaron y que contribuyó al desarrollo económico de la región y del país en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Este empresario que se inició como arriero y comerciante, pasando por la minería y la fundación de numerosas industrias, con la ayuda de su familia llegó a ser uno de los empresarios más acaudalados y destacados de su época, participó en sociedades de la más diversa índole como: empresas de transporte, trilladoras, cervecerías, chocolaterías, instituciones bancarias, exportación e importación de diversos artículos. Es reconocido por dos hechos esenciales la venta de café en Estados Unidos y la construcción del Ferrocarril de Amagá, también incursionó en empresas de urbanización y de seguros. Ángel Londoño fue un hombre emprendedor y visionario, además de ser un trabajador incansable, su contribución indudablemente contribuyó a forjar la historia de Antioquia. En el trabajo se consigna la valoración documental de la Casa Comercial “Ángel, López & Co.” dedicada a la exportación, importación y servicios bancarios entre las ciudades de Medellín y de Nueva York, donde se encargaba de la distribución y venta del café en los albores del siglo XX. Esperamos que este aporte sea útil para las personas interesadas en investigar más a fondo sobre Antioquia, su economía y empresarios, y sobre la vida de Alejandro Ángel Londoño. Finalmente se encuentran como anexos: las genealogías, el testamento de Alejandro Ángel Londoño, un listado de planos de algunas de sus propiedades, listado de recortes de periódico, el inventario que se dejó en La Universidad EAFIT, y un corto pero significativo relato y anecdotario escrito por una paisana suya doña Mercedes Ramos Toro, etc.

ABSTRACT: This paper presents the results of the organization, description and a brief assessment of the family archive of the Angel Londoño Family found in the Documentary Heritage Hall Library Luis Echavarria Villegas at EAFIT University. The assessment exercise of the Angel Lopez & Co. section, was made on one of the commercial houses in which this family participated. Initially the importance of organization of personal files is described. Then information gathering at regional, national and international context in which family members developed. Then proceeds to narrate the life and work of Alejandro Angel Londoño and children, the outstanding work performed which contributed to the economic development of the region and the country in the first half of the twentieth century. This entrepreneur who started as a muleteer and trader, going through mining and the establishment of numerous industries, with the help of his family became one of the most wealthy and prominent businessmen of his time, he participated in societies of the most diverse nature such as: transport companies, threshers, beer, chocolate shops, banks, export and import of various items. He is recognized by two essential facts the sale of coffee in the United States and the construction of railway Amaga, also dabbled in development and insurance companies. Angel Londoño was an entrepreneur and visionary man, besides being a tireless worker, his contribution undoubtedly helped forge the history of Antioquia. In the paper is entered the documentary assessment of the Trade House "Angel Lopez & Co." dedicated to the export, import and banking services between the cities of Medellin and New York, where it was responsible for the distribution and sale of coffee in the early twentieth century. We hope this contribution will serve as something useful for people interested in further investigation on Antioquia, its economy and businessmen, and the life of Alejandro Angel Londoño. Finally found as annexes: the genealogies, the will of Alejandro Angel Londoño, a list of blueprints of some of his properties, list of newspaper clippings, the inventory that was left at the EAFIT University, and a short but significant story and anecdotes writen by a countrywoman of his Mrs. Mercedes Ramos Toro, etc.
