Abstract: This text arises from a formative research process located in the municipality of San Vicente Ferrer, Antioquia, "Town of peasants and walkers", which focuses on reflecting and recognizing the cultural practices present in the territory. In this way, as we are language teachers and active actors facing our reality, it is essential for us to identify those knowledge, traditions and idiosyncrasies typical of the place we inhabit. ABSTRACT: According to the above, this exercise is supported by key concepts such as territory, tradition, heritage, cultural identity and local knowledge; and it is framed within the qualitative paradigm, which enables us to recognize the experience and voices of some "sanvicentinos", as a way to understand how the identity of the municipality is configured. Linked to the aforementioned, we appeal to the narrative biographical approach, and within this framework, to the life story and the workshops, as the strategies that allowed us to work with the students of the tenth grade of Institution Educative San Vicente Ferrer and others inhabitants of this town. From these encounters, we are abled to see how cultural identity is consolidated in practices that had their peak in the past - such as oral tradition and local knowledge - that are combined in the present with the social, political and cultural configurations of the territory.
