Abstract This project shows the investigative experience in which the correlation between socio-emotional competence and the performance of artistic gymnastics in high-performing athletes and in newcomers to the sport is determined, with samples from children and teenagers alike from the INDER and "Medellin's LAGIM" on the second semester of 2020. The paradigm on which the investigation was guided on was a correlational quantitative system, with a non-experimental design. The information collection was done with two questionnaires, one about socio-emotional competence (CSE) and another about sociodemographic characteristics (characteristics of the participants), the samplee size was of 237, 127 of those practice artistic gymnastics and 110 practice nothing, the age range was from 6 to 17 years, in ethic considerations, the informed consents were signed by both participants and by legal representatives, an analysis was done, using the RStudio software, to prove the hypothesis some correlation tests were implemented, such as Shapiro-Wilk, it was shown that those who practice artistic gymnastics score higher in the CSE compared to those who don't practice anything, , the correlation was realized the pearson’s test. is higher on the youngest people and grows weaker with age, ergo, it is recomended to start sport practice in the earlier, formative years.
